ABOUT
Samantha Laurey (b.1996) is a photojournalist currently covering breaking news, features, and anything South Dakota-related for the Argus Leader. She also volunteers as the Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee with the National Press Photographers Association. She formerly worked as a freelance photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, and her work has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Standard, Bay City News Wire Service, and numerous hyper-local Bay Area publications.
She holds a bachelor's degree in photojournalism from San Francisco State University (2021), where she served as the NPPA chapter president. Prior to that, she earned an associate's degree in journalism from Diablo Valley College (2019).
Her visual storytelling has been recognized with awards from the South Dakota NewsMedia Association, California News Publishers Association, Hearst Journalism Awards, College Photographer of the Year, College Media Association, and Journalism Association of Community Colleges.
